Iron River

It's 1958 and Manny and his family live in California.  Life isn't easy for Mexican Americans at that time - prejudices, poverty.  Manny's uncle has been in and out of jail - he suffers from memories of the war, substance abuse, and hanging out with the wrong people.  Manny's biggest struggle is fear of what may happen to him and his friends after finding a dead Hobo - they think they are responsible for the death after throwing fruit at a passing train.  Then Manny is a witness to another death and knows who did it.  Can Manny do what needs to be done so justice is served.

This wasn't a bad book - interesting look at Mexican American life in that particular time in history.  A decent historical novel.
