This was a pretty interesting book about the Harlem Hellfighters in World War I. The poems were pretty short. The illustrations were well done. My concern for my school is the lynching illustration. I wish there had been a way to better convey the music that was talked about.
Victoria loves running sled dogs and feels she has even more to prove after the death of her father. One evening, on a quest to purchase some new dogs, she gets lost while rescuing an injured boy. Together they must survive the Alaskan wilderness and try to find their way home. Lots of adventure here and some good character development. Nice to see a sled dogging book with a girl protagonist.
