Kyra's mother is a Starbard. She can listen to the stars and make predictions. Kyra should be one as well. She has the mark and the green eyes but she is deaf. How could she hear the stars? Kyra's dad believes in her and buys her a Naratsset companion who can speak with Kyra telepathically and who can teach Kyra to speak. Unfortunately, Starbards are feared and even despised by some and Kyra and her family are in danger. When her father dies Kyra's mother is in a tailspin and she loses touch with her daughter.
I felt like this book was pretty good. It was an interesting premise. I was disappointed as I got near the end and could tell that is wasn't going to finish. There must be a sequel in the works. An okay book but not my favorite.
