Piper lives on such a small island off the coast of Maine that she has to take lobster boat to another island everyday to go to school. And, after 8th grade, all students, like her older brother, have to go to the mainland to go to school and live there for the year. Piper misses her big brother and decides to wear the earmuffs he gave her all the time. That doesn't go over so well with her new teacher. Piper decides to skip schooland discovers the fairy tree with a delightful surprise inside.
I loved little Piper and this was a cute story. Unfortunately because Piper is only in second grade this is too young for Maine Student Book Award. It will be perfect for my second and third grade readers though.
