This was an interesting steam punk type book for middle grade readers. Phoebe's father works for the Foundry but when he is kidnapped Phoebe and one of the servant boys, Micah, go to rescue him. Along the way they discover that everything they thought was true is really a lie and that the technology they depend on comes at a cost.
While I did enjoy the book, at 442 pages it is just too darn long for all but my best readers. I felt that for my 4th and 5th graders it was a bit violent as well.
