Mouseheart

Hopper and his two siblings Pinkie and Pup are pet store mice.  There mother has disappeared and they never knew their father.  Life is okay until a boy with a snake comes to buy them.  Hopper decides to escape with his siblings but they all get separated.  Hopper finds himself under Brooklyn in Atlantia where Emperor Titus rules the rats, the cats leave the mice alone for some reason, and everyone is wary of the Mus.  Hopper is given special treatment because of a white circle of fur around his eye but other mice and rodents are kept in camps until they are sent as colonists.  But not all is as it seems and Hopper must figure out what is going on before it is too late.

I enjoyed this book.  It was a mixture between Tale of Despereaux and Gregor the Overlander.  There was some good action, character development, and it read well.  There was not a neat ending but it was satisfying enough.  This is volume 1.
