Kaidu comes to the Nameless City to meet his father and train with the Dao who currently control the city. But the city changes hands and names often which is why the local people call it The Nameless City. Kaidu doesn't really fit in with the Dao but isn't welcomed by the locals either. When Kaidu meets Rat, a local, she wants to dismiss him but she becomes intrigued by him and agrees to help him become a faster runner. Soon they become friends. Eventually they must work together to save the city.
This is the first book in a series. I will be curious how soon the next one comes out because that often determines the timeliness of potentially putting it on the MSBA list. Regardless, it will be a good fit for the library.
