This book had a lot of heart and that is what I loved about it!!
Annie and Jason are like the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches they love so much. They have been best friends forever and you can't have one without the other. But hard times have hit. Jason's dad is out of a job and his mother doesn't work. Now their house is for sale. Annie is desperate to help and keep them together but her plans - selling her kidney on eBay, a bake sale, and more all end in disaster. One plan, to hunt for the treasure that their grumpy old neighbor has told them about, seems foolproof. Good intentions aren't always enough though.
So yes familiar tropes - best friend moving, parents out of work but there were some fun twists like the treasure hunt and a realistic, if not ultimately a happy ending. I was pleasantly surprised by this.
