When Henry boards the train to go back home he has no idea that he is about to meet a talkative heiress named Ellie (who gets kidnapped), a friendly conductor named Clarence, crooks, and a talking cat named Lantern Sam. This was a fun romp which alternated between the mysterious kidnapping and Lantern Sam's memoir. The mystery itself was pretty solid, the characters were fun, and the talking cat was pretty quirky. Although the story took place in the early 1900s it was very accessible to students who may not have the historical background.
