Paper Things
Small as an Elephant was the first book I ever reviewed for Maine Student Book Award committee back before I was on the committee. I loved the Maine connection in that book. Although the Maine connection isn't as strong or noticeable in this book it is still a fabulous book, better than Small as an Elephant in my opinion.
Ari and Gage have been living with Janna ever since their mother died but Gage is an adult and is bucking at the restrictions and expectations Janna puts on them. So he decides to move out and tells Janna he has an apartment for himself and Ari. But he doesn't. He doesn't even have a full time job. For the next 6 weeks, Ari and Gage move from place to place staying with friends or at a shelter. But Ari's grades and social life are suffering. Does she stay with Gage no matter what?
This was a great book. The "paper things" showed the connection and dreams Ari had and were a cool way of representing what was going on in the book. Loved this!!!
