Mark of the Thief
I was a big fan of the author's False Prince series so I was quite excited to read this...and I wasn't disappointed. Nic is a slave in the Roman Empire working in the mines. But when a cave is discovered that contains Caesar's treasure, Nic is sent to retrieve an item. The problem is that once he touches the bulla he knows that he won't be able to give it up. Not only does the bulla have magical powers that seemingly only he can use, but he also has received a mark from the griffin who had been guarding the treasure. Now Nic has to figure out who to trust as various Senators and generals try to get the bulla and gain control of the Empire.
This book had a lot of action, a good blossoming friendship, and a few twists. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
