The Castle Behind Thorns
This may well be my favorite book of the year!!!
Sand wakes up inside a castle he has only seen before from the outside. Surrounded by vicious thorns this castle has been totally divided in two and nothing living remains. Sand is alone but sets out to make the best of it and mend what he can. But when his mending takes on a magical quality that restores a dead falcon and then a dead girl - the adventure and healing really begins. A powerful book of healing and forgiveness. I loved it.
Here are some quotes I particularly liked...
"Child, you do not forgive because the person who is wronged deserves it. You misunderstand the point of forgiveness entirely. The only cage that a grudge creates is around the holder of that grudge. Forgiveness is not saying that the person who hurt you is right, or has earned it, or is allowed to hurt you again. All forgiveness means is that you will carry on without the burdens of rage and hatred."
"If I tell you, you'll just forget at some critical point. If you figure it out for yourself, you'll always remember"
