During the Perseid Meteor shower, Arianna sees something odd. A ball of light seems to touch down in their horse pasture. Soon after, one of their ponies is mysteriously pregnant. What happens next is truly bizarre...the pony gives birth to a centaur. Now the family, which already struggles financially and struggles with Robbie, a thalidomide baby, need to figure out what to do with a centaur.
I am a great fan of Jane Yolen's. I really enjoyed this book of family, love, secrets, and some mystery. I thought the ending was a bit weird but then again it did bring an explanation to how Kai ended up coming in being. Overall, a fun read.
