Rainbow Weaver
Beautiful book set in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala. Ixchel wants to weave like her mother but the thread is too expensive for her to practice with and for her mother to let her use. Ixchel tries using grasses and other things but isn't successful until she starts using strips made from the colorful plastic bags that are all over the place.
Loved the resourcefulness of this book and can appreciate it from my time it Guatemala. It reminded me of The Soda Bottle School where items that are actually polluting Guatemala are used in creative ways. I loved the illustrations - took me back to my favorite place - Lake Atitlan.
