Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story
This book follows four children in the days leading up to 9/11. All 4 children were in Chicago on September 9th. Sergio goes home to NY where he lives with his grandmother. Will goes home to Pennsylvania where his family still struggles with the death of his father. Naheed goes to Ohio where she is having a hard time explaining her Muslim faith and why she wears a hijab. Aimee has just moved to LA but her mother has to travel back to New York City for a meeting at the World Trade Center.
In the next two days we get glimpses of the children's lives, their struggles, and their connections with the events to come. Sergio meets a fireman who will be on duty on 9/11. Sergio lives in the town where flight 93 went down. Aimee's mother is supposed to be in one of the towers. Naheed is already feeeling a backlash about her faith.
What will happen to these children on 9/11 and in the year to come.
I liked the book. As with any book told from multiple perspectives it can be hard to keep everyone straight. I also liked the build up and the tension about how 9/11 would play out. I wish there had been a little more of the aftermath and the ending.
