But Wait There's More...
This was a very simple book and left a lot of mystery but that's why I liked it. One day John and Marta find a boy on their porch and their lives are never the same after. Jacob is quiet but talented at music, art, and at getting into your heart. When Jacob's father finally comes back for him John and Marta don't know what to do. But, they turn the experience into something good by taking in foster children. Will they ever see Jacob again?
This was a fun book. It will be perfect for some of my early readers - 3rd grade girls and maybe even some 4th grade girls. With Kelsey being a third grader it would be a hard sell for the Maine Student Book Award which is for grades 4 - 8. I liked it as a nice, simple, book with a cute plot and allusions to some great children's books.
Paolo's city of Florence is under Nazi occupation but the war is coming to an end and the partisans are stirring up a lot of trouble. When Paolo's mom is asked to hide some escaped allied soldiers Paolo gets more excitement than he bargained for. This book had some good action and tension. I enjoyed this book.
Otto and Leni are both refugees in England from the war going on all around them. Now they are being asked to go back on a secret mission to "rescue" a girl. But who is this girl and why is everyone so interested in keeping her a secret. This was a real page turner but I did not really like the ending. Don't want to spoil it but there was something I didn't understand about the "reveal" of who she was and it was sad and abrupt at the end. I am also confused about the book and when it was published because it looks like it was also published under the name Hitler's Angel in 2012. Is Hitler's Secret just the paperback version?? I haven't decided what to do with the book yet...
