Sometimes I wonder why I even read fantasy... there are some notable exceptions and I love the subgenres of Dystopian and Science Fiction for the most part... but straight fantasy I have a heard time with.
This was no exception unfortunately. If the world building and conflict don't engage me quickly I slog through. For me this was a struggle. The reader doesn't even hear the name Thorn Queen til almost halfway through. There are some good characters but some of the secondary characters - that the main character is supposedly really close to - are barely mentioned. There isn't even of the conflict til the very end and then there is room for a sequel. Didn't work for me.
