Wild at Heart
This book is about the plight of wild mustangs and how children especially are working to rescue them. The photographs were gorgous and I enjoyed the first part of the book - history of the mustangs, about their lives in the wild. When the author started talking more about the management of the mustang bands and the abuse - it got a bit long, with legal talk, and too many small details. I think following one band more closely and less legal talk would have done as well. There was another section that spoke of several young people who were working on rescue efforts. While it was nice to honor their efforts - reading about it was kind of dry. While this is a noble effort and one that deserves attention this book was a bit long and I feel like the information could have been presented better. Of course, my primary audience is 4th and 5th graders - perhaps this would work better with a bit older audience.
