This was touted as a Prince and the Pauper tale but to me it took too long for the boys to meet and for the threads to unravel.
Lute is the Crown Prince but when his jealous uncle returns from battle Lute's life is in peril. Lute is able to escape the castle with his guardian but that is just the beginning of their adventures.
Griff has joined a traveling show with his brothers. He has the ability to hear others' thoughts but prefers to work alone. When the owner of the show starts to exploit his talent Griff knows he needs to escape and help his new friend Tess and her magical creatures as well. But when he starts to hear whispers from a boy in danger his life is turned upside down.
I enjoyed the beginning of the book but then things really bogged down. The story is told from both boys point of view and things jumped around quite a bit. It took a loooong time before the two boys finally met. I liked the ending but it took too long to get there.
