The Frankenstein Journals

J.D was abandoned when he was a baby.  When the orphanage he was living at goes out of business he discovers a journal that reveals he is the son of Frankenstein's Monster.  He sets off on a quest to find his "cousins" - relatives of the people Frankenstein used to create the monster.  But, Fran Kenstein is alos looking for these people in order to create her own monster.  In this book, J.D locates the relative of the person whose feet were used and the relative of the person whose green eye was used.

The book was a quick read and I can imagine the younger boys at my school enjoying it.

The Smasher by Scott Bly

Charlie has been selected to travel forward in time by Geneva who is a robot (or is she) from the future.  He needs to use his mathematical abilities as well as the hum to stop an evil genius from enslaving and controlling the world's population.

I wouldn't have picked this book to read on NetGalley if it hadn't sounded interesting.  I wanted to like it, I really did.  I like time travel, thwart the bad guy books.  This one just didn't work for me.  I never really got the whole Hum thing and the "smasher" method of time travel.  There were some good parts but it just didn't all come together for me...sorry.

Uninvited Guest - Ninja Librarian Blog Tour

This is the first time I have tried to do this on an iPad and it's about 4 am.  In the book a mongoose is accidentally taken on their journey.  The question this week is what animal you would take on your own travels.  I have had a dog, a cat, and grew up around horses but I wouldn't say I am one of "those people".  I love frogs but they wouldn't really make good travel companions.  I am not really a big fantasy reader but love The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McAffrey so I am picking a dragon. Built in transportation and protection...

Game Over, Pete Watson

Pete Watson loves video games.  When the newest game is about to come out he finds he is $20 short.  He decides to hold a garage sale without his parent's knowledge.  He thinks nothing of selling his dad's old computer system.  Unfortunately, he later discovers that the system was actually part of his dad's secret spy job.  By selling the system he has opened up a can of worms that leads to his dad being kidnapped and trapped in a game and could allow the bad guys to control the world.

This was a quick read and funny in places.  I am torn about it though...I haven't really decided it I will purchase it or not.  Was it funny enough?  Clever enough?

Ninja Librarian - Exotic Vacations

The Ninja Librarian challenge for the week is to pick scenes from books that I would want to be in...so here we go...

1.  I love Winnie the Pooh so I would like to live for awhile
     in the 100 Acre Wood.

2.  I would like to travel from Platform 9 3/4 to Hogwarts
     on the Hogwarts Express.

3.  I want to have a tour of Willy Wonka's factory.
4.  I'd also like to explore Mr. Lemoncello's Library.
5.  I would want to jump into Dauntless Headquarters from
     Divergent.

6.  I'd also like to zipline through the ruins of Chicago from
     Divergent.

7.  There is a book about to be released called Soda Bottle
School that is set in Guatemala.  I have
been to Guatemala 5 times and love the country.  I
would love to see the soda bottle school and
     help build others.

8.  How about going to Middle Earth and living in a Hobbit
     Hole?

9.  My husband and daughter want me to go to Rivendale
     from Lord of the Rings.

10.  I'd love to travel to Pern and be a dragonrider.
