Chirp
When Mia moves to Vermont she wants to put her gymnastics, her broken arm, and some other things behind her. She gets involved with her grandmother's cricket farm, and at her mother's insistence she joins a few summer groups. In one, she comes up with a plan to help her grandmother's crickets while the other works on healing her body. But someone seems to be sabotaging her grandmother's business and she is also having trouble forgetting what happened to her. Can she solve the mystery and open up to those who care about her?
This was well done - a good mystery with the additional layer of some unwanted attention and how Mia finally started working through it.

The Order of Time
I love time travel books so this one was right up my alley. Anastasia and Edward love visiting the Smithsonian but when the narrowly avoid an attack they learn that not all is as it seems. It turns out that Dr. Gregorian, who works at the museum, is also part of a secret society that can travel through time. His group works to keep another group from messing up history. When Dr. Gregorian is injured in another attack Anastasia and Edward travel to ancient Egypt to prevent the premature death of the pharaoh.
So obviously a bit over the top, unlikely, etc but a lot of fun. Anastasia and Edward were good characters. It took me about 6 days of reading on my elliptical to finish which means it might be a tad longer than I like but it was fun and I would recommend it.

Sunnyside Plaza
When a series of unexplained illnesses and even death occur at Sunnyside Plaza the police begin to be concerned. The residents are all teenagers or adults who are developmentally disabled.
Sal is one of the residents and even though she can't read she is very observant. Sal and some of the other residents figure out what is happening.
I am waffling about the book. My sister works in a similar type home and at first I thought a staff member was going to end up being guilty. Thankfully not the case. I also wonder about the main characters being too old for a children's book where main characters are usually children. The mystery itself was also pretty simplistic.

Close Calls
Interesting historical tidbits of history about 11 presidents who escaped death. Most of the events happened before the man became president thus allowing their history as president to play out. Interesting choice of Lincoln on the cover since he did escape and attempt and then, of course, later didn't. Most were stories I had heard before but a few were new. History buffs will like this and it is pretty accessible.
